Another filter you can utilize when narrowing down your choice of manufacturer is the warranty that they offer. Windows and doors can be a big expenditure and there is no need to come out of your pocket to repair if the manufacturer is going to cover it under warranty. Though many manufacturer's claim long term & "life-time" warranty that usually only covers certain parts of the window. For example your insulated glass is usually only covered for a few years against leaks and almost never covered against breakage unless you add a separate "glass breakage" warranty to your purchase if the manufacturer offers it. Now that you have selected the manufacturer of your choice, the next step is to find out who carries or distributes your product. You can do your search online or in the yellow pages. A great online window & door distributor is House Of Windows (www.thehouseofwindows.com) who distributes many products to all states at discount prices. Their ecommerce site allows you to price your products & options, add to shopping cart & purchase right online. The products are then shipped directly to your home or site. This website is open to both homeowners and contractors.
Keep in mind that many distributors are generally less expensive than the retail stores. The disadvantage is that most times distributors are not open to the general public. If you know what you are looking for and do not need to feel and touch the product then you usually can save a great deal of money going directly to the distributor for purchase.
Once your products arrive you will also need to find a good reliable contractor to install them or install them yourself. It is not a bad idea to have a local contractor provide you with a FREE Installation Estimate first even if you are installing your own product so you can weigh the cost of doing the project yourself. A good contractor will also point out some issues that might arise during the install that you can be made aware of. Some contractors will even measure your windows for you so you can check your measurement sizes with theirs. Sometimes the best way to learn how to do a project for the first time is to just listen to how a licensed professional would do it. By getting your FREE Installation Estimate you usually can also get educated for free! After getting your free estimate, if you still wish to tackle the installation yourself, reviewing the Manufacturer's Installation Instructions before you do the install is always a good idea. You can download the Installation Instructions from many of the top window & door manufacturers right on our Home Page. To go directly to our Window & Door Installation Instructions Download Page click here.
Good luck on your project and make sure you store all your paperwork in a safe place you can find just in case the need for a warranty claim arises.
